The disaster litter :( This was the text book example of what can go wrong with a litter. If any casual breeder wants to discuss how wonderful it would be to breed Daisy to Rover so the children can witness the joy of life, I'd let them know that they'd better be prepared to discuss the sadness of death. Orchid was to deliver 8 or 9 puppies but all but only one survived. After many trips to the emergency vet clinic, the regular vet clinic, and the reproduction specialist, plus many diagnostic tests, the results came back as Orchid contracted canine herpes during her pregnancy. 80% of dogs have canine herpes and it is usually a short lived and harmless virus that mostly goes unnoticed. This whelping process was very disheartening and sad that lasted over three days. Very tired, disappointed and broke.
