The best bred and raised puppies.
Breeding dogs and raising puppies is not a responsiblity to be taken lightly. Much thought, research, time, and effort goes goes into the decision to breed your dogs whether a stud or bitch. I've learned much from many people but two especially stand out. I'd like to thank Pepsi Gilson of Magicstar Standard Poodles for her wealth of knowledge regarding Poodle genetics and health. Pepsi is Drexel's breeder. She shared each step of his puppy development and allowed us to see the litter often from the time they were whelped. Sally Flunker of Moonlight Standard Poodles has been and is a great source of puppy raising information. It was an immense help when Sally invited us to her home to explain her daily puppy raising routine. Thanks, Sally!
This breeding, from sire selection to early puppy stimulation, follows the ideas put forth by Dr. Carmen Battaglia as found on his website Breeding Better Dogs. The importance of genetic diversity in a breed is reinforced by the research and writings of the late Dr. John Armstrong which is continued on by The Canine Diversity Project. The concept of Coeffient of Inbreeding (COI) is examined thoroughly at that website.
A great source of puppy raising information is the Monks of New Skete book The Art of Raising a Puppy. Puppies are raised in the home, right next to the kitchen so they will be used to all the noise of daily living. In addition to the Bio-sensor training recommended by Dr. Battaglia, all pups have been groomed numerous times, crate trained, and on their way to being house trained. Being a small, home-based breeder, all of our dogs live in the house with us.
